Final Score: Eagles 60 v 21 Woodley (L)
Going into the first match after Christmas, we were all excited to try and improve our play and work hard. The match was against Woodley, and we all knew it was going to be very tough, but we went in with our heads held high.
In the first quarter, we all went in strong. As a result, we were getting many interceptions and the centre passes were going straight to goal. The attack were making great passes into the circle and getting lots of shots, while the defence were pushing out the opposition and bringing the ball smoothly up the court. The first quarter ended very closely with 8-11 to Woodley.
When we started the second quarter, we were already quite tired. Unfortunately, we made a few silly mistakes which cost us some goals, but we kept trying to fight back. We kept our heads held high, as we knew that if we really tried, then we could narrow the score down. By half time we were down by 26-10
Woodley brought out a whole new team in the third quarter, which was a challenge for us as we only had one sub. They brought on their tall GS, who was always there to receive a great feed and put up a shot. However, the team kept going, with the defence working well in the circle to stop the balls going in, and the attack cleanly bringing the ball up court to the circle. The scores of the third quarter was 39-17 to Woodley.
In the last quarter, we knew that we wanted to get the score closer together and work our very best. The game ended with a score of 60-21 to Woodley.
We decided that our player of the match for Woodley would be the GK in the last quarter, who was able to jump high for the overheads and cause disruption to our play.
Well done to Zahra who won player of the match, very well deserved with those great interceptions! Sadly, Ines couldn’t play as she had hurt her ankle and we hope she gets better soon. Well done to all the girls with their great play!
