Eagles 1 v Sussex Storm

Final Score: Eagles 61 v Sussex Storm 48 (W)

The penultimate game before Christmas break saw Eagles 1 take on last season’s league winners Sussex Storm. Eagles started strongly with the defensive unit turning over numerous balls allowing Eagles to take a 7-2 lead. The game settled and both teams started to score off their own centre passes taking the quarter time score to 15-12 to Eagles.

The second quarter saw a new attacking combination of Amber Frobisher and Sarah Anderson (C and WA) take to the court, some direct attacking play and positive movement in the circle by the shooters allowed Eagles to further their lead to 32-24 at half-time.

Changes were made to the line-up by the coaches for the third quarter with Charlotte Maxfield and Hannah Plumb switching into GD and WD and reintroduction of Kat Butler to C. Eagles started the quarter well and scored 3 and 4 goal runs pushing the lead out to 12 goals by the end of the quarter.

Naomi Sterio came into GK for the final quarter with the added height causing additional pressure to the Storm attack when feeding the long ball. Storm also made some changes which allowed them to put pressure on the Eagles attack. However, Kat Butler switching to WA provided some excellent feeds into Georgie Maxfield and Kirsty Rusher to allow Eagles to end as eventual winners 61-48.

Kat Butler was voted player of the match by the opposing team.
