Eagles went into the last game of the season fighting for 2nd place in the league against B’s who, in the previous few rounds, had beaten both Royals and Woodley, and were sat near the top of the league.

We expected this game to be tough and it was made even more so by the fact that our team had suffered with the combined impact of holiday, injury and illness which depleted our normal starting 7 squad.

So with the warm up complete and a team talk from Neil and Maria, the girls lined up ready for the first whistle. The team got off to a good start, once again the defence proving strong, passing the ball quickly through the centre third. The quick passes were capitalised on by accurate shooting from Caitlin and Isla. Eagles ended Q1 7-0 up.

Q2 saw a few positional changes and as the quarter went on B’s had also made changes in their team. This was a low scoring quarter and Eagles went into half time 9-2 up.

A few more changes before Q3 and we really started to get into our stride .
The shooters were accurate and the ball coming through the mid court was swiftly sent where it was needed.

Eagles started to pull away and in this quarter we scored 9 goals to B’s single goal finishing the quarter 18-3.

The final quarter saw even more changes by Neil and likewise for B’s, and with the teams evenly matched the scoring mirrored Q2 with each team scoring 3.

As the final whistle went Eagles had won the game 21-6 and had leapfrogged B’s to finish in 2nd place in the league.

POM was given to Eve Bishopp for her work in the middle of the court and for her many interceptions.

All in all the girls have developed their skills and seen big improvements in their individual and team performances throughout the season, and most importantly established firm friendships as a team.

Tournament season begins soon, and the girls hope to see further improvements, but I am sure Neil will keep training them hard.
